Tic-tac-toe is played on a grid of nine squares arranged 3×3.
Setup
- Player X moves first unless you agree otherwise.
- Players alternate placing their symbol in an empty square.
Winning
You win by placing three of your symbols in a straight line — horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.
Draw
If all nine squares are filled and no player has a line of three, the game is a draw.

- Scores are tracked per side (X and O) until you clear counters.
- Restart game resets the board but keeps the running score.
